French Borah
Ex-President Alexandre Millerand was, last week, elected Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Senate.
This makes Senator Millerand a power in the Senate with which any Government must reckon. His influence, although at the opposite end of the political scale, is practically identical to that exercised by Senator Borah in the U. S. Senate. It is, as it were -- taking into account the present political status of France -- as if M. Millerand had drawn his sword to cross it with Foreign Minister Aristide Briand's in a duel that might at any time end the happy life of the Painleve Cabinet.
