" Honor the Dead"

P:In Washington President Coolidge told newspaper men he wished something could be done: Visitors to the tomb of the Unknown Soldier had been seen sitting on the edge of the tomb, and had left paper and refuse from picnic lunches around the tomb.

P: In Manhattan a man wrote a letter to the Times about Grant's tomb. He asked: "Why are boys and young men permitted to play handball against the walls of that monument? . . . Why should the young people of this generation so lack in taste and decency as to play their games on the very tomb of one of our generals?"
