Whip Box

To fill the post of the late William A. Oldfield of Arkansas as their "whip" (assistant floor-leader), the House Democrats appointed Representative John C. Box, a five-termer from Texas. The Box fame: immigration matters. A Box bill now pending is to put Western Hemisphere nations on the quota basis, to keep Mexicans out of Texas (see The Cabinet, "Labor Report").

In Arkansas, the Democrats nominated Representative Oldfield's widow to fill his seat.
