Driving into Buxar last week, St. Gandhi's automobile was waylaid by an angry, hooting crowd which smashed windshield, windows and hood, hurt everyone in the car but St. Gandhi. Deeply depressed, the Mahatma planned a three-week fast as penance. It was the first recorded attack on India's slipping idol.
