Why Bertie Hates Them

As an Anglophobe, the Chicago Tribune's Colonel Robert R. McCormick beats them all. In a letter published in a new British monthly, For Editors Only, last week Bertie McCormick candidly admitted that he hates the English, and tried to tell why. Wrote Bertie: "My hatred for the English originated with the British Foreign Office, who wish to set down my just criticism to prejudice. Among the criticisms are:

"Dunkirk was a rout and not a victory.

"The surrender of Hong Kong and Singapore were disgraces for which the generals should have been shot.

"Americans, Australians, and the English admiral were responsible for the Savo Island catastrophe.

"The retention of troops in Egypt and the Sudan is an aggression and tyranny.

"The bribing of the American Administration to get the Marshall dole is a disgrace to both countries."
