2 RICH, 2 THIN, 10 QUESTIONS

When the fall ready-to-wear shows finished in New York City last week, they left behind lots of empty bottles of Evian water and a number of questions ...

1. Anna Sui showed a horse outfit. And it will look good on... ?

2. Did TED DANSON and MARY STEENBURGEN, who went to Cynthia Rowley's show, become clotheshorses while no one was watching?

3. What sort of music was WOODY ALLEN expecting when he took his wife SOON-YI to the Versace show? Pachelbel?

4. Did Randolph Duke at Halston really have to show knitted tube tops, and do we really have to wear them again?

5. If PAMELA ANDERSON LEE wants to look more classy, why does she choose Marc Bouwer, whose clothes could double as tourniquets?

6. Oscar de la Renta, Richard Tyler, Jill Stuart, Halston, Han Feng and others used fur. What happened to all those models who would rather go naked than wear it?

7. Could Rowley's whimsical teacup hats actually catch on?

8. Jill Stuart took her applause with her children. Model Kirsten Owen's baby waved to her on the catwalk from the front row, and TRISH GOFF's baby starred for Isaac Mizrahi. Are babies the newest accessory?

9. At Halston a guest brought a dog, while Donna Karan's pooch watched the DKNY show on GABRIELLE KARAN's lap. Are dogs the equivalent of baby knockoffs?

10. Is anyone--apart from Naomi Campbell, who was reportedly paid $50,000--really ready to wear any of Betsey Johnson's collection? --With reporting by David Thigpen

DO YOU, CHILD, TAKE THIS CHILD...

Figuring perhaps that his parents hadn't done a good enough job of lousing up his life, MACAULAY CULKIN has taken that responsibility on himself. He has announced his intention to wed another 17-year-old actor, RACHEL MINER. "We're so happy and proud that we found each other at such a young age," said a statement released by one of Culkin's advisers. And his mom told the tabloid the Globe that she's "thrilled to death" about the nuptials. "He really, really loves her." When one has lived as much as Culkin, perhaps one reaches the level of maturity needed to make marriage work. On the other hand, probably not. History suggests that Culkin and Miner should make this one loooong engagement.

THANKS, BILLBERT

Ben & Jerry's couldn't have set it up better if it had tried. To promote Dilbert's World-Totally Nuts, its newest ice cream, the company organized an April Fools' Day promotion whereby ticket holders on certain flights got the average price of a ticket back. And who should rock up as the last passenger for the LAX-to-SFO flight but WILLIAM HURT. Yes, William Hurt, the star who looks most like Dilbert! At first he had to be coaxed into going over to the Dilbert cubicle to accept his prize. But as soon as he realized he was being given a check for $120, Hurt--without the aid of image consultants--asked that it be signed over to a charity.

GOLDMAN'S BACK

FRED GOLDMAN could not be blamed for never wanting to see another TV camera in his life. Yet he has become the latest participant in the O.J. Simpson trial to embrace the medium. He'll host Search for Justice with Fred Goldman, which will appear on UPN later this month. "For me, the word celebrity is offensive," says Goldman. "But people do recognize me. And maybe we can take the horror of losing my son and turn it into something positive." Search, which may be picked up as a series, will examine stories of injustice across America and try to use the pressure of TV to persuade officials to right them. Let's hope he's getting paid; he hasn't received a penny from O.J.

BIRD WATCHING IS MUY MACHO

THOMAS FIORE enhanced the image of bird watchers throughout the world last week by walking away from the Colombian guerrillas who had held him and three companions captive in the jungle for 10 days. Fiore, who lives in New York City, said he hiked eight hours till he stumbled across a local TV crew doing a story on the abductions. Both the Colombian government and the rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia were nonplussed: the former claimed Fiore had been released to deliver a message to Washington; the latter declared Fiore was freed as a "sign of goodwill" after it had determined that the captives were not spies. Fiore, who described his treatment by the guerrillas as "lots of food, no violence," says he escaped when his captors fell asleep. The four Americans were looking for the rare Cundinamarca antpitta when kidnapped. And you thought mountain climbing was dangerous.
