The World Of Kurt Weill
By William Tynan
Not merely the composer of The Threepenny Opera, Weill in his short life produced a large body of music that fuses opera, jazz, musical theater and cabaret. Through Dec. 3, New York City's Museum of Television & Radio is screening a cornucopia of performance tapes, including rarely seen made-for-TV versions of his ballet-opera hybrid The Seven Deadly Sins, his Broadway musical Lady in the Dark and his American folk opera Down in the Valley. A TV bio, interviews and an eye-popping array of musical clips complete a rich portrait of a unique artist.
